Dr. Bowtie

I wear bowties instead of the usual long ties.

This did not start as a fashion statement. Truth be told; I spill a lot. I go through very few lunches or dinners without spilling down my front. I got tired of ruining ties, so bowties were a way to dodge the matter. It was easier to launder a shirt than a tie. Later, I discovered old photographs of my grandfather (a photo of him is in the 4 June entry).
He wore bowties. So I felt a connection to him this way.

Over the years people began to expect them on me. When I worked in a state hospital, they helped the schizophrenic patients remember the ‘man with the bowtie is the doctor’. Even in the ER it came in handy. A patient is wheeled in, psychotic and mumbling. “Who is your doctor?” they ask the patient. “BOWTIE!” Easily identified what unit to put them on.
By now I have quite a collection and I can not imagine wearing any other neck wear.
The majority of men who wear bowties do so as the majority of men do not. It is fun to be ‘different’ that way. At the symphony or the opera, there is a silent nod of camaraderie when I see another fellow in a bowtie.

Of course, bowtie pasta is a stable food source here in the land of Spo.

And yes, I tie them myself. Don’t even mention the “C” word (clip-on)!

I rarely see men here wear them.

I used to wear them i first and second grade. Now I only wear a black one at weddings.

I was just getting ready to inquire about the "tie type that shall not be uttered" when I got to the last sentence.

I wore them back in the 70's, but stopped. Yes, they were "tie your own".

I never thought of them as an antidote to my inclination to spillage. I do not know how many of may favorites I have ruined that way! And I've never yet found a cleaner who could clean it without ruining it.

Your idea of the tie as identifier for the patients is also a good one.

That is so cute.:)
The Bow Tie is an unforgettable expression of individuality, of character and of mood.

Spillage.....do I know about spillage? :) I have learned never to order pasta with a tomato sauce when out to dinner

Tide has this nifty new, pen like, stain remover. I think there's more people like us out there.haha

I used to love wearing bow ties. Unfortunately I could never tie them so they were all clips

This does not come as surprise, I would expect such attire from someone of your profession. Although, it does also fit the post from a few days back where all you men were crying about being picked last. I think some ball scratching and beer chugging to up the testosterone is in order! But if the tie fits.....

(All punishment from my said sarcasm is freely accepted. I don't intend to be mean. Just honestly humorous.)

FYI, my secret verification word today is fnutz. *snickering*

Still chuckling at BID's comment....

I always loved bowties but rarely wore them or any tie for that matter. I prefer the to be as casual and comfortable as possible and I hate having my top button buttoned.

You look rather dapper in it though!

OMG...I think my body would go into shock if I had to wear any type of tie. And I can't believe you are awake enough to tie one in the morning...I'd need an additional cup of coffee just for that.

You look rather dapper though. Mr. Bow Tie Man.

The black shirt also helps. Doesn't show as many spills. But the bow ties are quite dashing. Quite. I wear neck gear that is altogether different. So, I too am spared neckties.

Cheers.

worked in a place where we were not allowed to wear any tied tie as it could easily become a noose. So I stopped wearing ties. I actually like it better this way. Now funky socks! I had Santa socks that played Christmas carols when you hit the button. I crossed my legs in a meeting and we had a little serenade! Embarassing.

If you wear a wild enough tie, you can spill just about anything on it and no one will notice.

I love it, even if the fashionistas might consider it a major coutoure faux-pas. It isn't what everyone else is wearing and it suits you very well.

That's a really good picture of you, by the way and the black shirt is great.

Ok...

1)You're absolutely adorable in the tie!

2)No one else has noticed it's a Bear Flag Bowtie!? At least it's close to the same colors.

3)LOVE that your patients know you as 'bowtie'

4)There's nothing sexier than a man with a bow tie undone and his shirt open just slightly with a little hair poking out underneath... ummmm, I'll be in my bunk.

Ok, correction to number 3, on MY computer it looks mostly shades of brown, that would be the privacy screen making everything darker... and browner, than it really is.

We so need to get you a Bear flag bowtie now.

I don't wear bowties but I have always thought they made a guy look sexy, in a very intellectual way. ;-)

Hey, BOWTIE, there is a new nickname to add to you collection if you didn't have one.
