Curious Things Around the House #4

This is Claudius, AKA “The White Cat”.

He didn’t see Tiberius ‘go’, so I wonder what he is experiencing - he no longer has his companion of 15 years. He spends more time under the bed; perhaps he is fearful he too will be suddenly snatched away.

He recently took up singing – Arias by Puccini, although his favorite is “Nessun Dorma’ (“No one sleeps!”) from Turandot.

He practices it every morning at 530AM.

He also practices yoga. Claudius always comes out when I do my stretches and bends, figuring this is time for him. Meditation and stretches are a bit distractive when there is a white cat on your chest.

Claudius is very handsome. I've heard that white cats have a higher chance of being deaf...perhaps we should ask everyones' thoughts on this?

He's beautiful. I am highly allergic so I only get to admire them from a distance. Sorry about that 5:30 a.m. thing. Ahh, the joys of being a parent.

I hope he does not sink his claws into your chest or your "fur" while you are stretching. ye-OW!

Our first pet was a pure white cat. It had beautiful blue eyes and was stone deaf. It used to ride around on the top of the canister vacuum. We think it liked the vibration of the motor.

What a great picture of Claudius. Of course, I know Tiberius much better because he was the friendlier one. I'll definitely miss him next time I'm over visiting.

My boyfriend's cat enjoys climbing on my chest while I'm trying to solve the Sunday crossword puzzle. He attempts to bite the pen and the paper then sticks his nose in my face until I pet him. such a diva!!

My guess is he feels better, a conection with you when you're on the floor.

Try the same thing somewhere else and try to bring him out from under the bed.

If he meows in the morning, he probably wants something. Try food, and if that's what it is, just postpone it a bit every day. The cat will change the time for feeding and will let you sleep.

Can't do yoga with a cat on your chest?! Try it with a bear, it's even harder!? lol

Did you rescue this cat?!
Sounds like he feels small and scared with humans, standing tall over him!?

Claudius was a 'rescue' from the streets of Chicago. I suspect he has a case of pussycat-PTSD.
ALas, he remains frightened of Someone after 6 years of cohabitation. It hurts Someone's feelings.

Gorgeous cat, gorgeous photo.

Once upon a time, I was owned by a white persian of grace and beauty. He was deaf.

that sounds so sad. I feel for Claudius, I know I would hide under the bed if I lost my companion.

give him a hug for me

Chris' cat doesn't sing at 5:30, but you can bet that, for some reason, she knows that I get up early and when I open my eyes, she's sitting RIGHT THERE in front of my face, looking as if to say: LET'S GO! FOOD!

My cats don't sing in the morning, but they love to stand in front of the computer monitor. He is a beautiful cat, though.

Wow...after reading your comments; I'm curious what percentage of white cats are actually deaf...I wonder why this link exists? OH MY, I'm sounding like a curious scientist! LOL My cousin has lots of cats and dogs, and one of her white cats with blue eyes was deaf - her husband, a vet., said that there is a high correlation. Not sure why though.
Okay...I'm done with the hearing challenged white cat thing...done.

That's a great photo! I think he is probaly crystal clear on what is happening and the early-morning arias are actually early-mourning arias, if you take my meaning. When I had to have Jonas put to sleep, I showed her to Giant Kitty so he would know what was happening. He looked completely stricken for a moment, then walked away carefully and composed himself in a way that I would describe as dissociative. Fromt hat day he started to go downhill and did not live long. They were best friends.
