Back Home

It is Sunday night.
Brother #4’s wedding went well – it was indoors.
I read a poem at the wedding, despite having a mild panic attack prior to the ‘performance’ – I haven’t had one of these in years. Nasty uncomfortable things, panic attacks; anyone out there have one/them? Well, I know what to do for them and the deep breathing exercises curtailed it down to a dull roar, enough to read the poem without fainting.
The wedding took place at a golf club in Oakland County, Michigan. The last seven generations of my father’s side lived in this county. It was nostalgic to see the old familiar places. But mostly I was happy to see the present things - the family. I was delighted to see my relatives, especially the cousins.

This morning my mother had a breakfast for everyone. When we get together we tend to get talkative and excited and start bouncing off of each other. It is exhausting. I have not been to my parent’s house in over a year.
I was amazed to see how much Fleischman trains and accessories my father has bought via Ebay – there goes the inheritance!

Now I am back in Arizona. I can put away the sweater and the flannels.
Someone flew to Iowa where he has a week’s worth of business trips. So I am alone. It feels odd after so much social interaction with loved ones.
There will be photos, but Someone has the camera in his luggage.

Anyway, it is good to be home.
I am looking forward to reading everyone’s blogs and getting caught up to date this week.

Welcome back!

You were missed!

Glad to hear you had a great week end. Aren't those panic attacks fun?

I'm mc for my office's Christmas party. About 200 people. Think I'll make it?

As for the trains, look at it this way, they'll be worth more later and you can sell them on e-bay. lol

Have a good week my friend, and again, welcome back!

Can I ever relate to the panic attacks. As you know I have had three in the last week and a half. And you are right deep breathing does wonders for them. I also find reminding myslef that they won't kill me and they won't last forever also helps. I now have Ativan for them, but haven't had to use it yet.

I'll be going to Iowa myself soon. Perhaps Someone can stop in and see me.

Glad you had a nice time. I can also relate. For some reason, when my entire family gets together at home, even though it's pretty laid back, I feel exhausted when I leave, too. Welcome back.

Father's been collecting German HO Fleischmann trains since I was a boy, but in his retirement years/discovery of EBAY it has exploded.
It takes up the whole basement section.
But he is very happy with them, running four or five trains simultaneously .

Good to hear you had a great time and survived the winter snap back east. I love those trains! My grandfather had a huge train setup similar to your dads down in the basement. I used to get in trouble for putting the little men in the park in "compromising positions". I guess it was a sign of things to come :)

Glad you are back safe and sound... I just finished selling off all my old train stuff - didn't have room for it anymore - wish I had known...

I had no idea trains were still such a popular hobby! My hubby just bought a Lionel off of EBay for our kids at Christmas. So he says....

Glad your home safely. I feel for the lonelyness though. It sucks to be so surrounded and then so suddenly it's quiet. Put the time to good use! You could make Someone his Christmas present while he's gone?

The trains look wonderful. I loved my electric train stuff as a kid. I'd start jockying right now to make sure that the trains ARE your inheritance. You wouldn't want them going to one of the brothers, would you?

Sounds as if you had a wonderful time between the wedding and visiting with family.

And boy, I love toy trains. Can you send your dad my way!!!

Glad you got back from the Arctic Circle (aka Michigan) in one piece without frozen nips, er lips....
I meant lips -- I was picturing you outside reading your poem & getting frostbite on your... Okay, I'll stop now. It is refreshing to see that someone in the mental health field admits to very human things like panic attacks. I can speak in public all day, but sometimes other things make me so depressed. (don't worry, the upped meds from the doc are working even better than I'd guessed).

I love trains, too. Last Christmas I searched & searched for a HO set under $200 for my display window at the store. No go. I found a crapola set at a discount store that wouldn't go all the way around the tracks -- it kept jumping off the tracks. This year, it's just gonna be the lighted Victorian Village.

Peace be with you, my friend,
Morgen

There is a great model railroad club here in Portland that has recreated the entire Columbia River Gorge area with multiple trains. We love that place.

Glad you enjoyed the trip and happy to hear the wedding went well. You were missed my friend.

My favorite memories of my father are playing with our HO trains under the christmas tree.

It's good to see the past and come back to the present, isn't it?

A golf club in Oakland County? Was it one of those deals where whoever holds the golf club is the only one allowed to speak?
