Ravings
Today’s entry is to rave a bit. So if I shock or offend I apologize ahead of time. I try not to be ugly or bitchy in these entries (lest I get phone calls from home). But it is therapeutic to get things expressed.
Rave 1#) Pills.
When did we become a nation so needy for pills? People want pills for this and that and they want more and more of them. Anything goes wrong in their life and they call me for more medications. I make sure my patients know that there are usually non medicine options to their treatment, or at least adjuncts. Few ever take these alternatives; fewer seem to clean up their habits/lives that contribute so much to their conditions.
On a different note, I am sick of taking my own medicines. But I would be a hypocrite to stop them.
Rave #2) Patients.
How do they expect me to help them when they continue to drink and smoke pot? I don’t have overt issues with alcohol or pot per se but I don’t have issues with sugar either – until you have diabetes. If you have complaints of lack of motivation, depression, no concentration, apathy and loss of sex drive – and smoke daily pot – I can’t fix you.
Dammit, they call it ‘dope’ not ‘smart’.
Rave #3) Politics.
I’m not going to even start.
Rave #4) Premiums.
Recently my liability insurance sent me a letter that had at least four incorrect statements therein. The main zinger was ‘you owe us 7000 dollars’ After a rollercoaster day of emotions it was finally cleared up that they were wrong but you would think that the insurance company would know what the hell they are insuring for in the first place. Bastards.
Rave #5) Plants
In our recent
Rave #6) Penguins.
The one on the television just exploded. Frightful mess.

You are allowed to "rave" on your blog. And we can comment on them if we so choose.
You go ahead and "rave" away!!! I still love ya!!
I know what you mean about "pills". A friend of mine has been ill. She's over that but still addicted to the medications that they gave her for pain. She has been through a dozen doctors in her quest for more pain killers. When one wises up to her game, she seeks another. She's lost her job and is in the process of losing her husband and child. We've tried everything we can think of to no avail. She has to want to help herself, and sadly, she doesn't.
Love the rants. They're so true. I agree whole-heartedly with the first on pills...but my fear of being on them put me through many years of hell. what i do take for anxiety has improved the way I do feel even though I still have my roller coaster moments.
I don't like pills! My mom was a pill junky. Every night I look at the 4 I have to take and remind myself that for now they help and I need them. I hate to know that they control parts of me. But I accept it for now.
As for the rants, rant away. sometimes your rant will make a reader think and see the light on something.
I love when you rant. I makes my doctor seem more human.
It is good to rant once in a while and I agree with a good bit of your ranting.
Altho I confess to not understanding the Penguin thing. I must have been asleep at the wheel.
Sigh. I just joined the Prevacid generation. It's the first time I've ever been tethered to a daily medication indefinitely, and it's making me feel like an old man. But I agree with others, nothing clears the air at times like a good rant.
BTW: Intercourse the penguin!!!
Ok... I'm curious. How did the Penguin explode?
The pills thing is interesting. In my experience I've noticed 2 factions of people. Those people who take a pill for everthing under the sun - without attempting a non-medication alternative. And those people who really need to take a pill, but refuse - even when it's obvious that medication is the answer. As far as pot and alcohol - my opinions are very moderate; in that I see nothing wrong with recreational use of either. But someone with psychological issues should not be using substances which further encourages their problem. And what the hell are you watching that there's exploding penguins????
What I hate is that it is hard enough for me to remember my own pills, now I have to remember the meds for my pets too!
Exploding Penguins? Sounds very Monty Pythonesque to me!
In my mind you are a picture of health! What could you possibly need a pill for??
Oh that poor penguin!
#1: Hehe, I've got a love/hate relationship with pills. I love nutritional supplements. I firmly believe, if taken in the right proportions and in moderation, they help support the whole of our bodily systems to do what they need to do. I admit I might go overboard on them.
I hate pharmaceuticals, artifical chemicals that disrupt our bodily systems in order to fix one small part, in the process creating a dependency or wreaking havoc on the whole.
I take lots of nutritional supplements, and I'm on Effexor, the lowest dosage I can take and still feel "normal."
There are so many huge companies out to make a buck on pills, the whole thing is suspicious.
#2: Job security.
#3: Most of the people in politics are pills themselves.
#4: The people running insurance companies own the people in #3 and are too doped up on #1 or #2 to think clearly.
#5: I'm so sorry. Here, have a pill. You'll feel better.
#6: See #5.
Doug T - first Rx? lucky man to have dodged them so far.
Doug - your comments made me laugh today. thank you
Heather - thanks to mother and her side of the family, I have cream in my veins for which I take several cholesterol Rx and several supplements.
all the exercise/vegetarianism etc hasn't been enough to curtail cholesterol over 300. can't beat genetics some times.
Pills: we're a society that likes to get help as cheaply as possible. Have a headache? Why see a doctor when you can buy a pill. Need help getting it up? Buy a pill. We seem to like taking the easy way out or the quick fix instead of trying to get to the root of the problem. Then again, money is an issue with this as well.
Penguin: perhaps that was the alternate ending to Happy Feet that didn't make it past the MPAA.
Don't sweat the ranting. It's good to know how you are feeling and what's going on in your life. As for pills, I've tried life with 'em and without 'em and trust me everybody including me prefers me on 'em. That being said, if someone gave me an option to try and get off them and not go back to the real "me" I'd do it in a minute.
It sometimes feels good to rant, n'est pas? I know I do.
Go Spo!!!(Shows you're human):)
Pills.....I hate them but have to take them for depression. I have the exact opposite problem from yours. The Dr.'s here write you a script without even trying to find out the underlying problem. I have never lived in a city like this, where they dish out medication like candy.
I'm so sorry about your plants.
Your rant even made me feel better. Now, if I could only get some valium.
I too just started a daily med but my doctor and I are trying the herbal approach first. So far, so good!
I hope you feel much better. I like to picture you on a chaise and doing free association like you are saying them.
Is it any wonder in a society that craves things be conveinent so they don't have to expend any energy or change their routine that pills have become so popular. After all they are the miracle cure. Sorry to be a wise ass.
I'm so totally with you on numbers 1 through 5.
#6 sounds like something I might write. I really wish that I had written it. It's a wonderfully bizarre statement, which elevates you in my estimation.
Had your pills just kicked in when you wrote it?
I'm personally against pills -- but I do occasionally like a few of those other things you wrote about. Or sometimes more than occasionally. I sometimes feel depressed, but I can honestly say I don't lack motivation...
Oh, and in your next post? I'm sure that there are a lot more of us who care about you than just 50!
Exploding penguins? What the heck you watching?!
I imagine the trick with pills and behavior is: if it's possible to figure out a behavior (food, drink, sex, other) that causes a problem, you can stop taking pills for the problem. But, id the behavior is something you build a social life out of (food, drink, sex, other), it's so damn tempting to just keep taking the pills and not disrupt your life (such as it is).
It's not logical at all. But very human.
Now - Good grief, is it possible so many people don't know the exploding penguin???
Burma!!!
